Google Wallet
Your loyalty programme in Google Wallet
On Android, your customers add your business's card to Google Wallet from the sign-up form. No app to download, no account to create.
The idea
Google Wallet, the wallet of Android phones
Google Wallet is Google's app that holds, on Android, payment cards, tickets and loyalty cards. It comes preinstalled on most recent phones, and can be downloaded free from the Play Store when it is not.
It works from Android 5.0, with Google Play services. The only real exception is phones sold without those services, which happens with some imported models: the card cannot be installed on them.
Adding it
Adding the card from an Android phone
The customer opens your link
By scanning the QR code on the counter, or from your Google profile or your Instagram bio. It is the same link as for iPhones.
They sign up
The sign-up page recognises an Android phone and puts the "Add to Google Wallet" button first.
They save the card
Google Wallet shows your business's card; the customer saves it, and finds it with their other cards.
If they delete the card or change phones, the “Renvoyer ma carte” (resend my card) email also contains the Google Wallet link. Their balance, meanwhile, has never left your account.
On the card
What the customer sees
- Your business's logo, colours and name.
- The name of your programme and the customer's name.
- Their points or stamps balance.
- Their QR code, which the staff member scans at the till.
- Their current vouchers and the information you display on the card.
The QR code is the same as on an Apple Wallet card: your team uses a single scanner, whatever the customer's phone. It identifies the card, and only a signed-in staff account can credit points.
Your addresses are sent to Google Wallet with the card. Google then applies its own rules to highlight it near your shops.

What differs today between the two cards
The programme, the scanner, the customer profiles, the rewards and the statistics are the same for all your customers. What changes is how the card shows in the phone, and we would rather write it here than let you discover it at the counter.
| Apple Wallet | Google Wallet | |
|---|---|---|
| App | Built into the iPhone | Preinstalled on most Android phones, free on the Play Store |
| Devices | iPhone, and the paired Apple Watch | Android 5.0 phones and later, with Google services |
| Balance after a visit to the till | Updated automatically | Shown as it was when the card was added: automatic updating is not available today |
| Notifications and messages | On the lock screen | Not available today |
For your iPhone customers, all the details are on the Apple Wallet loyalty card page. An Android customer's exact balance is always visible on your scanner, when you scan their card.
What it changes
For the business, and for the customer
For the business
- Your Android customers join the same programme, without a second tool.
- A single sign-up QR code to print for everyone.
- A single scanner and a single customer list.
For the customer
- No shop app to install.
- The card goes into Google Wallet, with their other cards.
- They show it at the till from their phone, without looking for an email.
Questions about the Google Wallet card
What if my customer does not have Google Wallet on their Android?
Google Wallet installs for free from the Play Store and comes preinstalled on most recent phones. Once installed, the add link works normally, without signing up again.
Which versions of iOS and Android are needed?
On iPhone, Wallet has been built into the system since iOS 6: no recent version is required. On Android, Google Wallet requires Android 5.0 or later and Google Play services. An Android phone without Google services, which happens on some imported models, will not be able to install the card.
Does it work on every phone?
On the vast majority of phones in use, with nothing extra to install.
- iPhone: Apple Wallet is built into the system, there is nothing to download.
- Apple Watch: the card appears on its own as soon as it is on the paired iPhone.
- Android 5.0 and later: Google Wallet, preinstalled on most recent models and free on the Play Store.
- The only exception: an Android phone without Google services, which happens on some imported models.
What about my customers who do not have a smartphone?
The card requires a Wallet-compatible phone; there is no honest way around that. You can, however, keep following them: from the Clients tab, you find a profile by name or email and credit their points by hand, without scanning anything.
